To Walk Worthy: Part Four

I have often felt ashamed of my ease of living and my personal failures when compared with forefathers—both of our religious and national heritage—who truly seemed to walk worthy of their calling.

There is no greater judge of my ability to do a work for God than another person who has faced the same or even tougher challenges who succeeded!

But it is important to note that while we are indeed “compassed about by so great a cloud of witnesses,” even they did not face life’s challenges on their own strength. It was through faith that they were made useful for the kingdom!

It is that same measure of faith, then, that will enable us to walk worthy alongside them in these endtimes!

Today, let us meditate on these heroes and heroines of old as listed in Hebrews 11:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” If you’re the kind of person who needs proof, your ability to see through the eye of faith is enough evidence to ensure that God CAN and WILL work through you!

“For by it (FAITH) the elders obtained a good report.

THROUGH FAITH we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” So you need faith that God can take care of tomorrow? God created your today and that’s all you need to know!

“BY FAITH, Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.” How would you like God Almighty to be your DEFENSE ATTORNEY? And that’s not all! Through faith, your witness will reach far more than your natural body can! How many of you would like to have a witness that lives on?

“BY FAITH, Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation, he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” What greater testimony could you have—that you pleased an all-knowing, all-mighty, all-powerful, self-sufficient God?

“BY FAITH, Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”

“BY FAITH, Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country; dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.”

“THROUGH FAITH also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.” You know what you’re saying when you have no faith? You’re saying that God is a liar and will not perform His promises! And don’t say that he hasn’t made any promises to you; the Bible is full of them! Check them out!

“BY FAITH Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.” Who would have known that the land of Israel would recover from such a drought with the nation still intact? Only a man of foresight and faith in God’s protecting hand could have envisioned such a restoration of the nation of Israel! Because of his faith, he was restored back to his homeland!

“BY FAITH, Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharoah’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. BY FAITH, he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is inevitable.”You want to lead people? Stop fraternizing with the world. Come out and be ye separate, saith the Lord! Moses wasn’t called simply because he was an Israelite! He was called to lead the children of Israel out of bondage because God knew that when the going got tough, he was one man who would not turn back to Egypt! He had already chosen to forsake the riches of Pharoah so that he could once again become one with the people of God—even if they were in slavery! He was GOD’S MAN all the way!

“And what shall I say more? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: who THROUGH FAITH, subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.”

Notice, all of this was accomplished through FAITH that God could use their BASE frames for a greater good than their own kingdom!

“And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, and tormented;

(OF whom the world was not worthy).”

Notice! Through faith, not only did these children of God walk worthy…but the world that once scorned them was not worthy of them!

It’s time we turned away from the riches of Pharoah’s court for those things which are seen are temporal (temporary) while those things that we cannot see except through the eye of faith are eternal!

You see, that is what faith is. It is a new way of perceiving yourself and your life. It is not counting your successes by dollars in the bank, friends at the table, investments in the stock market, or plaques on the wall. BUT RATHER, counting all those things as dung to the excellency of knowing and ministering to the Almighty!

The miraculous work of God does not come without a cost. You will suffer hurt and pain, loneliness and heartache, disappointments and setbacks, temptation and persecution. But what matters if the type of blessing you are seeking!

If it is the blessing that only lasts from one day to the next, then you can live your comfortable life in Pharoah’s courts or on the back field of an Eqyptian task master that never beats too hard. You can continue to live your life in measured steps toward earthly callings and man-made goals.

Or, you can set your sights on a greater kingdom and a greater blessing! It is when you seek doorways to walk through into God’s perfect use for your life—instead of mere day-to-day, material blessings—that you will begin to “walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.”

Until you make that decision, you can never be of true value to the Almighty.

It is one thing to be loved of God but it is quite another altogether to be of value to God!

You must have the faith that, despite the persecution, the sacrifice, the hardship, Your God is able to keep you and to use you for a greater purpose. You must be as God who is “without variableness nor shadow of turning.” Hebrews 11 tells us that a man who wavers will receive nothing of the Lord; be steadfast!

It is only by this undaunted faith that:

*** You will obtain a good report like the elders of Israel!

*** Your witness will be known by subsequent generations like Abel!

*** You will please God like Enoch and death will lose its power over you!

***You will inherit the promises of God like Abraham!

*** You will bear innumerable spiritual children like Sarah! Just as she gave physical birth to a nation, Christian men and women today can give spiritual birth to an entire generation of believers!

*** Your home will be restored like Joseph and Job!

*** You will free yourself of this world’s entanglements and lead others out of bondage like Moses!

***That you will walk worthy…and be of the number of whom the world is not worthy!
